My Webpage (in Progress)

My web page is nowhere near what I envision it to be. With more practice and help learning the techniques to do certain things I believe it will be much better then what was presented during class time. I need to change the overall feel of the page by exploring different methods of visual aspects such as images, video, and also I plan on making a unique banner that
represents who I am. I find HTML to be quite confusing due to my lack of experience with it. Once i learn more I will be able to envision how I want the page to look and then start the process of bringing it to life.

Artist Lecture Visit

The visiting artist shared a ton of information that seemed to directly relate to his approach to photography. He picked a topic and ran with it, trying to find the best way he could communicate visually through his pictures. Although I would have preferred him to show many more images then what was presented, many of the images seemed to depict a somber, sad feeling of remorse to them. The idea of urban morphing and presenting an argument that involves numbers, and images to convince all play a crucial role in the undertones of his work. Yes, he may be just driving around and so called "taking advantage" of what he sees and how his view of these things are. But the deeper connection he shares with what he sees is the driving force behind each and every image. Pictures can be worth a thousand words, or worth no words at all, pictures grasp a different part of my brain rather then words and phrases. Pictures allow a visual representation that is open to endless comprehension. It gives the viewer the choice to decide what is important, why this image was created, how the things framed in the picture correlate with the viewer's lives. The viewer draws their unique perspective of the image based off of the experiences that they have been thru. These connections are what stirs up many different perspectives, and each person's is unique.
Overall I really enjoyed the lecture, his images and methodology reminds me of some of my own methodology and mindsets. I tend to be most creative when I am on the road because of the sense of "sensory overload" so much to look at in so little time! that is why this artist stops and photographs these moments he feels that need to be captured and shared with anyone and everyone. Change is brought about by striving to make a difference and I feel his work greatly represents his efforts.

Rhythm Science Response

Rhythm Science was a very complex series of thoughts about day to day life and how technology incorporates itself into who we are as human beings. Everyday we encounter some form of digital communication, weather it is a laptop or cell phone, these items are there to collect, process, and disperse anything and everything that passes thru our consciences. With every person being capable of transmitting these feelings a totally different set of culture is created. Digital culture is and will be a massive part of our future generation's lives, it will be integrated completely and just accepted as the norm much like today. With children being born into this massive technological realm we live in, navigating, communicating, and living will all go hand-in-hand with technology.
DJ spookie ties this limitless amounts of easily accessed information into the art of mixing and mashing. Taking what isn't yours and making it your own, without the worry of "stealing" or "borrowing" He and Mark Amerika invite the open source of mixing and remixing anything and everything. If the tools needed to create what you see in your head are there, use them and start the process! Infinite amounts of information exist and can be your personal playground that can guide you through the process of creation.

Critique Post

Our last class was the day we turned in our first assignment for digital interactive media. We each went up and presented our typography project to the whole class and then shared our thoughts and feelings about each work. Critiques are a part of every art class that i have taken. Some go much smoother and easier then others, for example i have been in a class where you could hear someones stomach growling from the backroom while we were supposed to be discussing the drawing that my fellow student made. To critique means to give other points of views to assist in the development of the project and even future projects to come. Critiquing is extremely important because when people talk out loud about what they think in their head it can influence the artist and help them gain a better understanding about where they need to focus more attention on, and even what their strengths are. By getting accustomed to talking about work, ideas and the process of creation will greatly benefit. By communicating to our peers and asking questions about the creative process, we learn a lot of valuable information that can greatly increase the quality of work. I enjoy the critiquing process because it gives me a chance to step outside my own realm and see how other people are interpreting my work. Overall my critique went over well and i gained some valuable suggestions on what i could do to improve my design. I can take constructive criticism and i value any opinions because they all assist in the process of designing a piece that is made to be viewed by an audience. I look forward to seeing the next project and seeing what ideas have been gained since the last critique session!

"Just My Type"

This article was a very interesting short and to the point read! It talked about how far back Font history went and where its origins began. Steve Jobs (the mastermind of all digital fonts)proved himself as being detrimental to the typography world. His interest was sparked when he was in college and when he learned calligraphy. It was all UP hill from that point on. Many people take for granted the endless upon endless amounts of choices and variety we have to choose from when writing. With more options for each font such as bold, italic, strike thru the combinations are almost infinite! Every font serves a function, has a hidden meaning/connotation that goes along with it. The process of learning these proper combinations and applying them to our words is what fuels the design process. There are very right combinations and also very wrong combinations of type sets. Companies are known strictly by their font and font styles, for example many companies like, redubull uses a font called "futura" or a company like The New York Times uses a font called "old english text" for their titles and headings. Each font is usually customized to the company and what they are trying to accomplish with the fonts. There are many options and styles that communicate visually to people and the way the communicate is extremely beneficial and important when deciding between type. there is a font out there for any and every occasion that will fit perfectly.
