The visiting artist shared a ton of information that seemed to directly relate to his approach to photography. He picked a topic and ran with it, trying to find the best way he could communicate visually through his pictures. Although I would have preferred him to show many more images then what was presented, many of the images seemed to depict a somber, sad feeling of remorse to them. The idea of urban morphing and presenting an argument that involves numbers, and images to convince all play a crucial role in the undertones of his work. Yes, he may be just driving around and so called "taking advantage" of what he sees and how his view of these things are. But the deeper connection he shares with what he sees is the driving force behind each and every image. Pictures can be worth a thousand words, or worth no words at all, pictures grasp a different part of my brain rather then words and phrases. Pictures allow a visual representation that is open to endless comprehension. It gives the viewer the choice to decide what is important, why this image was created, how the things framed in the picture correlate with the viewer's lives. The viewer draws their unique perspective of the image based off of the experiences that they have been thru. These connections are what stirs up many different perspectives, and each person's is unique.
Overall I really enjoyed the lecture, his images and methodology reminds me of some of my own methodology and mindsets. I tend to be most creative when I am on the road because of the sense of "sensory overload" so much to look at in so little time! that is why this artist stops and photographs these moments he feels that need to be captured and shared with anyone and everyone. Change is brought about by striving to make a difference and I feel his work greatly represents his efforts.
