Typography Critique

After Effects has been my favorite part of the semester thus far. I have never used it and was excited to start dabbling! I believe the class's projects turned out very well overall. Some simpler modifications of timing could and should be adjusted but I really enjoyed watching all the projects. It was cool to see each persons style come thru in their work. I think a couple of them were very awesome and turned out looking quite professional and I could tell that they spent a lot of time on their work. It was a pain to line up the words with the audio and I understand the challenge and it was a good opportunity to see and learn how my fellow class mates went thru the process. I look forward to using After Effects in the near future in making subtitles for short films and also for more kinetic typography projects.
Here is a video of my final typography piece!

Artist/Designer Andy Warhol

An artist that instantly came to my mind when it comes to doing both design work and art work was Andy Warhol. His unique approach to art allowed him to think outside the box.The idea of reproduction and repetition played a crucial role in the development of his works. From designing labels on product's boxes and making them reproducible was an advancement in itself! When someone designs something for someone they are trying to see what from that particular person's perspective. They cater to the purpose. When someone is making artwork they draw inspiration solely on what their intentions for the piece are. Being a good designer comes down that exact combination of skill sets that work together in harmony. Andy Warhols pop art images were extremely pleasing to the eye upon first glance, the colors, the arrangement, the repetition, the balance. His career began as an illustrator and it was not until after his career when he became focusing on his artwork. He also dabbled in countless other media outlets ranging from photography, filming, screen printing, record producing etc. He was a jack of all trades that had both a designers eye and an artists eye.

Assignment 2

Overall the critique for assignment 2 went very well and I was excited to show my videos to the class. Although I did not have enough different choices for the viewer to explore, I think the critique went well.My pages could have used more links and color formatting and html coding etc. My classmates seemed to enjoy the videos so in my eyes it was a success. I also really enjoyed seeing the many different approaches to the assignment. Seeing how others view the assignment helps me gain a better understanding of what needs to be completed on my works. I had a lot of fun making the videos for the project and I mainly focused on learning the editing programs and making the videos rather then placing my time into the html portion of the project.

Artist Lecture Deborah Bright

Deborah Bright's images in CVA's gallery required attention to detail. Upon first glance these images may have looked like a tourist's quick snapshot, but after the artist's lecture and hearing her speak on what the purpose of the work, Much much more can be gained from each and every photo in her series. Her series called "Battlefield Panoramic" consist of an awesome depiction of historical and forgotten places of battle. She showed many different places of bloodshed that have since long been forgotten, She categorized the images she presented as being something like a "historical memory reclamation" and she drew a great deal of inspiration from the book "Agincourt" which showcased famous battlegrounds. For example, "Bloody lane" was the deadliest day in our countries history, over 41,000 lives were lost on one single day of battle. Deborah s image shows a seemingly normal dirt road with modern fencing over top the land that was once covered in bodies. Morbid thoughts and imagery but that is what fueled her work. She spent a great deal of time on her previous work and not very much time on the work featured in the CVA. Her presentation was awesome and she was extremely intelligent and it showed! I really enjoyed hearing her talk about her different types of work she does. She also talked about her erotic photography involving toy horses in which she drew inspiration from her childhood combined with her own sexual desires she is trying to depict. She has spoken and shown her work at endless amounts of universities and museums throughout the country. Her work is even showcased in numerous countries on the other side of the world! It was awesome to have an opportunity to hear such an accomplished artist.

Map Project Text about Music transmission

I challenge you to find something that surrounds us on a day to day basis that is not directly manipulated by a change in technology.Music is what consumes my conscience, I notice the rhythm in everything. It fills my day and nights, I listen while I work, I listen while I create, I listen while I live. It seems to follow me wherever I choose to go. How does music become something more? How is there that one song that can exactly represent how I feel at that particular moment. How does the music I choose to listen, create our mindset that influences the world in which we dwell. Music is an art form, just a different medium. These work of arts can cross paths with our lives in many ways. The instant gratification pandemic has been sweeping this nation. With the invention of the computer; Music could now be available, composed, edited, mixed, mastered, recorded, distributed, marketed, heard and even watched thru these tools that were designed for the masses. This advancement has shaped today’s understanding of what music is and the methods used to create it. CD’s, vinyl, and tapes are now a thing of the past. Music can be instantly accessed on the internet, any song you can think of (even if you can not think of the song) can be heard at the click of a mouse. The internet will forever be in an expansion, which will allow our music libraries and music knowledge to expand. The process of music attainment and discovery has changed dramatically. Apprehended by an invisible spectrum of interconnected frequencies, containing mass amounts of information. Something that was once cherished and materialized has faced the transformation of times. Endless amounts of music and files can be in our possession without taking up any physical space, except for the hard drive it calls home. Computers serve as vicious carnivores that strive to sink their teeth into anything and everything we can click on. This map demonstrates the three basic methods of discovering music. These bands were gathered in itunes and then I researched where they were from and represented that on this map. Each band is color coded for a different method of discovery.I encourage you to download the vector image of this map and dissect your music collection and strive to understand where, how, and why this music found its way through your ears.
