Map Project Text about Music transmission
I challenge you to find something that surrounds us on a day to day basis that is not directly manipulated by a change in technology.Music is what consumes my conscience, I notice the rhythm in everything. It fills my day and nights, I listen while I work, I listen while I create, I listen while I live. It seems to follow me wherever I choose to go. How does music become something more? How is there that one song that can exactly represent how I feel at that particular moment. How does the music I choose to listen, create our mindset that influences the world in which we dwell. Music is an art form, just a different medium. These work of arts can cross paths with our lives in many ways. The instant gratification pandemic has been sweeping this nation. With the invention of the computer; Music could now be available, composed, edited, mixed, mastered, recorded, distributed, marketed, heard and even watched thru these tools that were designed for the masses. This advancement has shaped today’s understanding of what music is and the methods used to create it. CD’s, vinyl, and tapes are now a thing of the past. Music can be instantly accessed on the internet, any song you can think of (even if you can not think of the song) can be heard at the click of a mouse. The internet will forever be in an expansion, which will allow our music libraries and music knowledge to expand. The process of music attainment and discovery has changed dramatically. Apprehended by an invisible spectrum of interconnected frequencies, containing mass amounts of information. Something that was once cherished and materialized has faced the transformation of times. Endless amounts of music and files can be in our possession without taking up any physical space, except for the hard drive it calls home. Computers serve as vicious carnivores that strive to sink their teeth into anything and everything we can click on. This map demonstrates the three basic methods of discovering music. These bands were gathered in itunes and then I researched where they were from and represented that on this map. Each band is color coded for a different method of discovery.I encourage you to download the vector image of this map and dissect your music collection and strive to understand where, how, and why this music found its way through your ears.
