"Just My Type"
This article was a very interesting short and to the point read! It talked about how far back Font history went and where its origins began. Steve Jobs (the mastermind of all digital fonts)proved himself as being detrimental to the typography world. His interest was sparked when he was in college and when he learned calligraphy. It was all UP hill from that point on. Many people take for granted the endless upon endless amounts of choices and variety we have to choose from when writing. With more options for each font such as bold, italic, strike thru the combinations are almost infinite! Every font serves a function, has a hidden meaning/connotation that goes along with it. The process of learning these proper combinations and applying them to our words is what fuels the design process. There are very right combinations and also very wrong combinations of type sets. Companies are known strictly by their font and font styles, for example many companies like, redubull uses a font called "futura" or a company like The New York Times uses a font called "old english text" for their titles and headings. Each font is usually customized to the company and what they are trying to accomplish with the fonts. There are many options and styles that communicate visually to people and the way the communicate is extremely beneficial and important when deciding between type. there is a font out there for any and every occasion that will fit perfectly.
